FIP's letter to Most Rev. Nelson J. Pérez, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Hispanic Affairs (USCCB)
Dear Most Rev. Nelson J. Perez:
We pray that you are fine and in Peace.
The intention of this letter is to convey greetings to you on behalf of the Federación de Institutos Pastorales (FIP) and to thank you for your service as recently appointed Chairman of Hispanic Affairs and for your service in the V Encuentro process. FIP appreciates all this work, and our membership continues to take an active part in the V Encuentro.
We are involved and committed to the V Encuentro since its beginning when it was announced by our FIP Moderator Bishop Arturo Cepeda in Las Vegas 2013 during the national Hispanic associations’ annual membership gathering. FIP’S board immediately committed one of its Board members, Alejandro Siller-Gonzalez, to participate in ENAHVE as member of the Process Committee, and has been actively working in that committee till now. We are promoters of the V Encuentro because we see its need in our Church that we serve through our mission and vision.
We are the oldest Hispanic membership association in the USA. The Federation of Pastoral Institutes (FIP) was created in 1985, out of the initiative of the Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) and the South East Pastoral Institute (SEPI). The objective was to forge a common vision for formation and to develop a system of collaboration and mutual enrichment through the sharing of experiences. Later, many other national, regional and diocesan pastoral institutes joined the Federation.
Our Mission is:
- To coordinate the efforts of its members.
- To advise and create awareness in the institutions of the Catholic Church with
- the purpose of raising the quality and the number of pastoral formation programs for Hispanics.
- To serve other pastoral institutes which work with Hispanics.
- To gather, accompany, and articulate the pastoral process of Hispanics in the U.S.
Our Vision is:
FIP promotes an integrating vision of formation adopting the spirit of the National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic Ministry, the National Encuentros of Hispanic Pastoral and Encounter and Mission.
We would also like to mention that FIP takes part in the pastoral consultations of a total of eight national Catholic Hispanic ministry organizations; FIP recently received a small grant from the Raskob Foundation to help finance the participation of the leadership of these eight national organizations in a consultation to be held March 20-22, 2017 in Cullman, Alabama. The purpose of the consultation is to deepen the participation of the eight organizations in the V Encuentro process.
In addition to FIP, the other seven organizations are:
- AHREU
- ANDH
- ANSH
- FCH
- La RED
- NCADDHM
- NCCHM
We hope to keep in touch with you as we serve our Church throughout the US.
Fraternalmente en Cristo,
Roberto Hurteau, PhD
Presidente de la FIP
